KYNT Local Sports for 5-6-19

Mount Marty placed fifth in the G-PAC Mens Outdoor Track & Field Championship which was their highest finish in school history.  Lancer sophomore Paul Paul of Harrisburg took first in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, and anchored the winning 4 by 100 and 4 by 400 meter relay teams.  Jonah Rechtenbaugh took second in the 400-meter dash and third in the 200-meter, while Lucas Blankman placed third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.  Doane University repeated their G-PAC Men’s title and Concordia won the women’s division, with Mount Marty placing 11th among the women’s teams in the G-PAC Meet at Williams Field.

Concordia will host Jamestown in the G-PAC Baseball championship game on Tuesday, after each team won their bracket on Saturday.  Mount Marty was eliminated Friday night in an 8-6 loss to Doane University.  The Lancers finished at 25 and 21 overall and tied for third place in the conference regular season.

Morningside won the Softball title Saturday in the G-PAC Tournament, taking two of three games from Jamestown in the championship final.  Mount Marty was eliminated on Friday in a 6-5 loss to Concordia.  The Lancers ended up 21 and 24 with the most wins in school history since re-starting the program in 2001.

South Dakota State took two of three games from South Dakota in softball over the weekend in Brookings, winning the series finale 14-2 on Saturday.  The Coyotes still earned the number-two seed in the Summit League Post-Season Tournament with a 12 and 6 conference record.  The Jacks will be the fourth seed when the League Tournament begins Wednesday in Fargo.

Yankton High School senior Jaiden Boomsma had a great showing in the Howard Wood Dakota Relays this weekend, placing second in the girls long jump and third in the 100-meter dash.  Bucks sophomore Matthew Mors took fourth in the high jump.  Yankton will host O’Gorman in a dual meet today at 4:00 at Williams Field.

Yankton won three boys tennis matches on Saturday, beating Huron 7-2, topping Aberdeen Central 8-1 and shutting out Brookings 9-0.  The Bucks are 17 and 3 on the season with a match at second-ranked Sioux Falls O’Gorman today at 4:00.
