The 88th annual Boys Tennis State Tournament begins today in Sioux Falls and runs through the championship matches Saturday afternoon.  Sioux Falls Lincoln is going for their sixth consecutive state title as 24 schools are entered in the tourney.  The Yankton Bucks had an 18 and 5 regular season record and are looking for their first top six finish at the state meet since 1981.  Yankton is led by seniors Sam Mooney, Michael Frick, Isaac Klimisch and Cole Sawatzke while Gage Becker and Nick Gregoire are both seeded second at flights five and six singles.  Singles play gets underway at 8:00 this morning at three separate locations.

The Yankton Bucks baseball team is the seventh seed in the Class A playoffs scheduled for Saturday.  The Bucks will meet tenth-seed Brookings in the opening game set for noon Saturday at Harmodon Park in Sioux Falls.  O’Gorman is the top seed for the Region bracket in Sioux Falls.

The Yankton Gazelles continue their season today by competing in the Brookings Invitational starting at 10 a-m.

The South Dakota High School Class B boys and girls golf state tournaments next month have been moved to courses in Yankton.  Water and drainage issues at Wild Oak Golf Course in Mitchell prompted the move by the High School Activities Association to Yankton.  Hillcrest Country Club will host the Class B Boys state meet and Fox Run Golf Course will hold the Class B girls tourney, both scheduled for Monday and Tuesday June 3rd and 4th.

Mount Marty College has signed 2018 Bon Homme High School graduate Bailey Kortan to attend school and play softball and basketball for the Lancers.  Kortan was selected for the all-state softball squad four times and scored over 1,000 points in basketball playing two years at both Bon Homme and Yankton schools.

The U-S-D softball squad faces Purdue University today at 10 a-m in the opening game of the National Softball Invitational Championship, with South Dakota State taking on Eastern Kentucky at 1:00.  Iowa State is the host for the region and the top seed in the double elimination tournament.
