KYNT Local Sports for 4-25-19

Mount Marty swept a softball doubleheader at Northwestern on Wednesday by scores of 6-2 and 8-3.  Rylee Denomy pitched the complete game win and led the Lancers with two home runs in the opener, and Makenzi Howard had three RBI’s  in the nightcap for Mount Marty.  The Lancers are in a three-way tie for fifth place as they finish up the regular season Saturday with a twin bill at Doane University.

Mount Marty now has a nine-game baseball winning streak after rolling past Dordt 12-5 last night at Riverside Field.  Sophomore Mason Townsend of Yankton led the Lancers with two home runs, two singles and five RBI’s.  Mount Marty is now 24 and 16 overall and will host Northwestern tonight in a pair of G-PAC games in Yankton, and our broadcast starts at 5:55 pm on AM 1450, KYNT.

Mount Marty senior Joe Brinkman closed out his Lancer career by placing third in the G-PAC Men’s Golf Tournament.  Brinkman carded a 74 yesterday for a 72-hole total of 288 and his third place was the best finish in school history.  Morningside won the G-PAC Men’s Golf tourney and the Lancers finished in 11th place.

Mount Marty hosted their annual Twilight Track and Field Invite last night at Williams Field.  The Lancers beat Division Two Northern State in winning the 400 meter relay, while Jonah Rechtenbaugh took second in the 400 dash and Lucas Blankman was second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.  Mount Marty will host the G-PAC Outdoor Championship next Friday and Saturday in Yankton.

U-S-D junior Chris Nilsen has been named the Summit League Men’s Track and Field Athlete of the Week for the 20th time in his career.  Nilsen won the pole vault last Saturday in Long Beach, California with a leap of 19 feet, 1 inch…and that’s the best mark in the world this year.

Yankton High School will host 14 other teams today in the First Dakota Relays at Williams Field.  The field events start at 1:00 this afternoon and events on the track begin at 1:30 p-m.  Yankton will golf in the Harrisburg Girls Golf Invitational today in Sioux Falls.  The Gazelles will compete against ten other schools in the meet beginning at 9 a-m at the Spring Creek Country Club.
