South Dakota senior guard Allison Arens scored 26 points as the USD Coyotes fell 83-71 to South Dakota State in Tuesday’s Summit League Tournament championship at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. State is 26-6 and earned the Summit’s automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. USD at 28-5 will move on to the postseason tournament for the ninth consecutive season. Arens and sophomore center Hannah Sjerven (sher-VIN) were named to the all-Summit League Tournament team. Macy Miller continued her dominance for SDSU with 30 points and 11 rebounds. The South Dakota State senior guard recorded her third double-double in a title game. The Coyotes will await their postseason fate with Selection Monday slated for March 18
The Yankton Bucks are in Rapid City today preparing for the State AA basketball tournament which begins on Thursday. The western half of the state is under a blizzard warning for all of today and tomorrow until 6PM. School has been cancelled in Yankton Thursday, in-part so that fans could make tournament plans. For the third straight season, South Dakota State’s Mike Daum has been named to the United States Basketball Writers Association All-District squad. Daum averages a double-double of 25.3 points and 11.7 rebounds per game and last week picked up Summit League Player of the Year honors for the third time in his career.
Concordia won the Women’s Basketball NAIA Division II National Championship Game in Sioux City over Southeastern 67-59. Grace Perry was the tournament MVP. It’s the first NAIA National Title For Concordia. Concordia Head Coach Drew Olson was named NAIA D-2 Coach of the Year.
