Yankton sophomore Matthew Mors had 37 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists as the Bucks led all the way in a 69-54 victory at Sioux Falls Washington on Tuesday. Cole Sawatzke and Cooper Cornemann each chipped in 10 points as the Bucks raised their record to 12 and 3 and kept the second seed spot in Class Double-A boys basketball heading into a Friday game at Watertown.
Sioux Falls Washington outscored Yankton 22-5 in the fourth quarter to rally past the Yankton Gazelles 54-42 last night at the Summit Activities Center. Junior Kelsey Oswald hit five-of-nine three-point shots and led the Gazelles with 15 points and junior Madison Wuebben added 9 points and 7 rebounds. Yankton is now 6 and 8 overall with a home game Friday night against Watertown.
There were two records set in southeast South Dakota high school basketball last night. Vermillion sophomore Lexi Plitzuweit set an all-time record of 44 points for Tanager girls basketball in a 75-70 double overtime victory against Dakota Valley. Avon crushed Menno 66-27 and in the game senior Lauren Sees poured in 40 points and became the all-time leading scorer in Avon girls history.
Mount Marty College will have a G-PAC basketball doubleheader at Dakota Wesleyan tonight. The Tigers are defending national champions in women’s basketball and this year are rated fifth in the nation with a 23-3 record. The Dakota Wesleyan men are 17-8 overall and ranked 18th nationally. South Dakota junior Zack Anderson of Parker has been named the Summit League Male Track and Field Athlete of the Week. Anderson set a USD and DakotaDome record last Saturday with a high jump of 7 feet, 3 and ¾ inches.
