KYNT Local Sports for 2-11-19

Individual competition was held Saturday at the state gymnastics meet in Brookings.  Freshman Callie Boomsma had the top finish for Yankton in Class Double-A by taking tenth on the Bars, freshman Maggie Schaefer was 13th on the Beam for the Gazelles, and seventh-grader Ava Koller took 19th in the All-Around. In the Class A individual meet, Vermillion senior Carter Williams was fifth in the All-Around and Wagner-Bon Homme senior Emily Duffek took 12th  All-Around.

Winner was the team champion Saturday in the Huron Invitational wrestling meet while Yankton ended up with freshman Owen Warren winning the 195-pound title.  Cruz Dyer was second for the Bucks at 113 and Kyler Lillie placed third at 126 pounds.  Yankton wrestles in the Region tourney Friday at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.

The Mount Marty women’s basketball team topped Doane University 69-61 in a G-PAC matchup on Saturday.  Senior Sammy Kasowski led the Lancers with 16 points and 7 rebounds and sophomore Karlee McKinney chipped in 15 points.  The Lancer women are now 14-13 overall with a home non-conference game Wednesday at 7 in the Cimpl Arena against Dakota State.

The Mount Marty men’s basketball squad led by a point late in the game but the Doane Tigers rallied for a 55-49 victory.  The Lancers shot just 29 percent from the field and were paced by 18 points and 12 rebounds from junior Colby Johnson.  Mount Marty ends its season on Saturday with a G-PAC doubleheader against Concordia starting at 2:00 at the Cimpl Arena.

Oral Roberts led the USD women’s basketball team by nine points early in the fourth quarter before the Coyotes put together a big rally to earn a 75-64 victory.  USD junior Ciara Duffy had 16 of her game-high 18 points in the fourth quarter to help the Coyotes remain tied with SDSU for first in the Summit League.

In men’s basketball on Sunday, Oral Roberts used a strong inside game to defeat USD 86-72 in Vermillion, dropping the Coyotes to a 3 and 8 league record.  Junior Triston Simpson led the Coyotes with 20 points and 9 rebounds yesterday.
