KYNT Local Sports for 1-8-19

Brookings defeated Yankton 49-27 last night in high school wrestling at the Summit Activities Center, and then the Bucks came back to defeat Sioux Falls Roosevelt by a 42-28 score.  Yankton junior heavyweight Trevor Ellis got a victory in overtime and then posted a pin for the Bucks, who will wrestle at home again Friday night in a triangular against Aberdeen Central and Brandon Valley.

The Yankton Bucks basketball team dropped to second place in the South Dakota Media Class Double-A poll this week, after losing to unbeaten and top-ranked Sioux Falls Lincoln on Saturday.  The Bucks will host third-rated Huron this evening as the second half of a girls-boys doubleheader between Yankton and the Tigers.  Our broadcast tonight from Yankton starts at 5:55 p-m on AM 1450, KYNT.

Vermillion is unbeaten in six girls basketball games this season and the Tanagers have moved up to fourth place in the Class A girls poll this week.

South Dakota State finished as the third-ranked team in the FCS national football poll this season.  The Jacks ended up with a 10 and 3 overall record with two of those losses to eventual national champion North Dakota State.  The Bison were the unanimous choice for number one in the FCS poll with Eastern Washington in second place.

The USD Women’s Tennis schedule has been announced, and the Coyotes will start their season January 19th with a match at Kansas State.  USD was runner-up in the Summit League tournament last year and this year the tourney will be held on April 26th in Tulsa.
