KYNT Local Sports for 1-12-19

The Yankton Gazelles evened up their record at 4-4 overall with a 43-38 victory at winless Sioux Falls Roosevelt last night.  Junior Madison Wuebben led Yankton with 18 points and 11 rebounds, and helped the Gazelles to nearly a two-to-one rebound advantage over Roosevelt.  Yankton travel to Aberdeen Central today for a 5:00 varsity game against the defending state champion Golden Eagles.

The Yankton Bucks are back on top of the Class Double-A boys basketball playoff points race, just ahead of unbeaten Sioux Falls Lincoln.  Yankton is 8-1 overall and will host a 1-5 Aberdeen Central squad today at 5:00 at the Summit Activities Center.  Our broadcast of Bucks basketball starts at 4:45 p-m on the Current 94-3 FM.

The Yankton Bucks lost a pair of E-S-D wrestling duals last night at the Summit Activities Center.  Aberdeen Central defeated Yankton 46-25 and then Brandon Valley downed the Bucks 51-20.  Kyler Lillie and Owen Warren each picked up two victories on the mat for Yankton, which competes all day today in the Harrisburg Invitational.

The Yankton Gazelles scored a season-best 137.6 to finish third in the Huron Gymnastics Invitational on Friday.  Seventh-grader Ava Koller paced the Gazelles with a 34.95 total which took tenth place in the All-Around.  Yankton will have a gymnastics dual meet at Vermillion on Tuesday.

The Mount Marty College basketball teams return home today for a G-PAC doubleheader against Hastings College.  The Broncos are rated 21st in the nation in women’s basketball and the men’s squad is 30th.  The tipoff is at 2:00 for the women’s game and 4:00 for the men’s contest today at the Cimpl Arena, and our broadcast of Lancer basketball starts at 1:35 this afternoon on 1450, KYNT.

The USD women’s basketball squad continues their season today with a home game at noon against Purdue-Fort Wayne in Vermillion.  The Coyotes are 14 and 3 overall and are rated fourth in the Mid-Major women’s basketball poll this week.
