Defending state champion Yankton has the top spot in the South Dakota Media Pre-Season Class AA high school boys basketball poll. The Bucks received 16 of the 20 first place votes and second-place Sioux Falls O’Gorman got the other four first-place votes. The Tea Area was first in Class A boys basketball while Bridgewater-Emery took the top spot in Class B. In South Dakota girls basketball, O’Gorman is first in Class AA, St. Thomas More is number one in Class A with Vermillion tied for eighth place, and Ethan has the top spot in Class B girls basketball with Tripp-Delmont-Armour fourth and Avon in fifth place.
The Yankton Gazelles gymnastics squad has only two home meets this season and the first one is tonight, hosting Mitchell and Sioux Falls Lincoln at 6 p-m. The Yankton Bucks wrestling team competes in a triangular tonight at Lincoln High School against the Patriots, Sioux Falls Washington and Lennox.
The Mount Marty College basketball teams return to the home court tomorrow night with a G-PAC doubleheader against Dakota Wesleyan starting at 6 p-m.
The USD men’s basketball team is 4 and 3 overall with a game at Colorado tonight. The USD women’s basketball squad is now 7 and 1 this season with a contest tonight at Missouri State.
South Dakota State has their basketball teams in the Volunteer state this evening as the Jackrabbit men play at Memphis and the SDSU women have a game at Chattanooga.
South Dakota State senior Mike Daum has repeated as the Summit League Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Daum averaged 25 points and 15 rebounds last week in two victories by the Jacks, and was also named the College Insider National Player of the Week.
