Yankton County Commission Race

The message from voters in Tuesday’s  Yankton County Commission race was clear: we want the three incumbents out of office.

Top vote getter Dan Klimisch says he wants to make the transition between the two commissions as smooth as possible.

First-time candidate Joe Healy says his priority is to work to understand exactly what the role of a county commissioner is.

Challenger Cheri Loest says as a new member of the board, looking at revenue sources and ways to increase the county’s tax base are her priorities.

Fourth place finisher Commission Chairman Todd Woods says the race revolved around livestock CAFO’s and infrastructure needs, issues that the new commission will have to work on.

Overall in Yankton County there were just over 9,000 ballots cast from 13,740 registered voters for a turnout of 66.1%.
