KYNT Local Sports for 11-7-18

Second-seed Johnson-Brock defeated Bloomfield 72-32 yesterday in a battle of unbeaten in the Nebraska Class D-2 football quarterfinals.  In the loss, Brantson Gieselman rushed for 135 yards and three touchdowns for the Bees who ended up with a 10 and 1 season record.

Creighton continued their unbeaten football season with a 76-28 victory over Lutheran Northeast in Norfolk last night in the Class D-1 quarterfinals.

Parker swept Madison 3-0 and Elk Point-Jefferson beat Dell Rapids 3-0 Tuesday in the SoDak Round of 16 volleyball matches.   The Pheasants and Huskies have each qualified for the Class A state volleyball tournament next week in Sioux Falls.

The Mount Marty College basketball squads start their G-PAC schedule this evening with a home doubleheader against Dordt College.  The Lancer women are unbeaten in three games, while the Mount Marty men are 2 and 3 this season.  The Defenders are 3 and 1 on the men’s season, while the Dordt women are undefeated in four games and averaging 90 points per game.  Our broadcast from the Cimpl Arena begins at 5:35 pm on AM 1450, KYNT.

The University of South Dakota opens their basketball seasons tonight.  The Coyote men’s team under new head coach Todd Lee will host York College in a 7:00 tipoff in Vermillion, while the U-S-D women’s team has a 6:00 contest at Creighton University in Omaha.

USD cross-country standout Eldon Warner was named the Summit League Male Athlete of the Month for October.  Warner became the first Coyote to win the league cross-country individual title and he has won five meets during the season.  The USD men and women will run for honors at the NCAA Midwest Regional Friday in Peoria, Illinois.
