The ESD announced their All-Conference football selections Monday, which included five Yankton Bucks seniors. Quarterback Ethan Wishon, receiver Rex Ryken, tailback Caid Koletzky, guard Elijah Jones and placekicker Cole Sawatzke each were named All-Conference as they led the Bucks to a 6 and 5 season. Brandon Valley led the way with ten All-Conference choices, while Pierre had eight honored by the ESD.
Bon Homme head football coach Byron Pudwill was named the Region Seven Coach of the Year by the South Dakota Football Coaches Association. Pudwill will be honored Friday night at the DakotaDome. He has guided the Cavaliers into the Class 9-AA championship contest with a 10-1 season record, and Bon Homme will take on Kimball-White Lake at 1:00 Thursday in the title game.
The Nebraska eight-man football playoffs continue today with quarterfinal games around the state. In Class D-1, top-seed Creighton will play at Lutheran Northeast in Norfolk tonight at 6:00. In a Class D-2 quarterfinal match of undefeated teams, Bloomfield plays at Johnson-Brock at 3 p-m.
South Dakota State junior tackle Evan Greeneway of Yankton was selected as the Offensive Lineman of the Week by the Missouri Valley Football Conference. Greeneway is listed at 6-foot-7 and 290 pounds and helped the Jacks crush Missouri State 59-7 on Saturday as their offense did not suffer a single tackle for loss during the game. SDSU is rated sixth in the nation with a 6-2 record.
Unbeaten Morningside is still first in the N-A-I-A football poll this week with Northwestern rated fifth in the nation.
