KYNT Local Sports for 10-10-18

The Yankton Gazelles soccer season ended on Tuesday in the Class Double-A semifinals in Rapid City.  Second-seed Stevens scored in the 60th minute to edge Yankton 1-0 as the Gazelles finished up with an 11-3-2 record, third in the state.

There will be “Pink Night” activities at both the Yankton Gazelles volleyball match Thursday and the Bucks football game on Friday.  Pink T-shirts are being sold to support local breast cancer efforts in the Yankton area.  The Gazelles will host Watertown tomorrow night in volleyball and Brandon Valley plays at Yankton Friday night in football.

The Region 3-B cross-country meet in Freeman has been postponed today, and will be held tomorrow starting at 1 p-m at Valley View Golf Course.

The second round of the Nebraska Class C Girls Golf state tournament in North Platte was cancelled due to weather.  The tournament awards were based on Monday’s opening round and Hartington Cedar Catholic placed 14th in the meet.

The Mount Marty College fall sports season continues tonight with road matches.  The Lancer soccer teams will play at Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell with the women’s game at 5:00 and the men’s contest at 7:30.  The Mount Marty volleyball squad has a 7:30 varsity match at Briar Cliff in Sioux City tonight.

In the STATS poll for FCS football teams this week, North Dakota State and South Dakota State are ranked one-two in the nation.  The U-S-D Coyotes moved into the poll at 24th in the nation and will host 26th-ranked Northern Iowa on Saturday.
