KYNT Local Sports for 8-8-18

Madison scored in the bottom of the ninth inning to edge Lesterville 9-8 last night in the second round of the South Dakota Class B amateur baseball tournament in Sioux Falls.  Tyler Edler had four hits and three runs scored to lead the Broncs, while Dave Schmidt drove in three runs.  The South Central League teams have now all been eliminated from the Class B state tournament.  The Yankton Tappers will face Castlewood In the Class A tournament Friday at 4 p-m at the Renner ballpark.

Also last night in the Class B amateur baseball tournament, Harrisburg crushed Lennox 12-0 as Dalton Allen pitched the seven-inning complete game with 15 strikeouts.  Tonight at Ronken Field in Sioux Falls, two-time defending state champion Alexandria takes on Clark followed by Dimock-Emery against Flandreau.

In American Association baseball on Tuesday, Sioux Falls defeated St. Paul 7-5 as Mitch Glasser led the Canaries with three RBI’s.  Wichita shut out Sioux City 3-0 allowing just three hits to the Explorers.

South Dakota State University is rated third in the STATS Pre-Season F-C-S football poll.  North Dakota State is rated first in the nation with James Madison University in second place and the Jackrabbits third.  Three other Missouri Valley teams are in the top 25 pre-season poll.  Northern Iowa is ranked 13th, Illinois State is 21st and Youngstown State is rated 25th in the nation.

The University of South Dakota women’s tennis squad has released their fall schedule.  The Coyotes begin their season September 14th at the Drake Invitational in Des Moines, and they will complete the fall schedule at a Regional meet in Iowa City in mid-October.
