El Nino Forecast

Weather forecasters are saying there is a better than normal chance that an El Nino will form later this year in the Pacific Ocean, but what that potential increase in ocean temperatures will mean for our region is uncertain.

The current forecast calls for a seventy percent chance of an El Nino to from by late this year and National Weather Service Hydrologist Alan Schlag says that may impact temperatures more strongly in the region to our west.

Even if an El Nino forms Schlag says we can expect about normal precipitation in our area this fall and winter.

The National Weather Service says the highest probabilities for above-normal temperatures this fall and winter are forecast from the Four Corners region to the Pacific Northwest.
