The Irene Cardinals upset Crofton 9-8 in ten innings last night in South Central League amateur baseball. Alex Loes had three hits for Irene, including the game- winner with a walk-off RBI double in the tenth, while Austin Hegge had three hits for the Bluejays. In other Sunday night games, Wynot edged Freeman 10-9 and Menno whipped Tabor 11-0. The Yankton Tappers now lead Menno by one game in the South Central League standings, and tonight the Tappers visit Tabor and Crofton travels to Wynot.
In Junior Legion baseball on Sunday, Brookings outscored Yankton 13-11 and 5-2 for a doubleheader sweep at Riverside Field. Brandon Valley topped the Yankton Reds 13-3 and the Reds will have games at Mitchell today starting at 4:00. The Yankton Lakers have a doubleheader at Brookings starting at 5 p-m.
In Legion baseball tonight, Yankton Post 12 will host Sioux Falls East in a twin bill at 5:00. Yankton is 10 and 16 on the season, while East is 25 and 16 overall.
In American Association baseball on Sunday, Wichita outscored Sioux City 11-8. Jay Baum had three hits including a two-run homer for the Explorers, who have a five game lead in the South Division. Gary SouthShore topped Sioux Falls 6-4 yesterday. Dan Motl had four hits for the Canaries, who now are five games behind in the North Division.
Pro golfer Andre Metzger of Sioux Falls will now climb to the top of the pack in the point standings for the Dakotas Tour after winning the Baker Crossing Charity Pro-Am this weekend. Metzger shot a three-round total of 14-under-par to win the tournament by three strokes.
