The Yankton Tappers scored four runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Wynot Expos 9-5 last night in South Central League amateur baseball. Mason Townsend homered and drove in four runs for the Tappers, while Devin Gullikson drove in three runs. Dawson Sudbeck had five hits for Wynot in the loss.
Watertown outscored Yankton 14-9 and 11-8 in a Legion baseball doubleheader sweep on Friday. Nate Hein had six hits and 6 RBI’s in the twin bill for Yankton, while Ethan Wishon added four hits and 3 RBI’s last night. Yankton is 10 and 16 on the Legion season and will host Sioux Falls East in two games Monday night.
In Junior Legion baseball yesterday, Yankton beat Mitchell 3-1 in the opener as Brad Howe pitched a five-hitter for the victory. Mitchell took the second contest by a 10-2 score.
In American Association baseball Friday night, Sioux City doubled up Wichita 4-2 as the Explorers picked up their tenth consecutive victory. Sioux Falls blanked Gary SouthShore 1-0 as Cesilio Pimentel fired eight shutout innings for the Canaries and now has a 1.36 E-R-A to lead the league.
California pros have the top three spots after the first round of the Baker Crossing Charity Pro-Am in Sioux Falls, which is the fourth stop on the Dakotas Golf Tour. Chris Gilman leads the pack after a six-under-par round while Sioux Falls pro Andre Metzger is tied for third place with a four-under-total in the tournament which continues through Sunday.
