KYNT Local Sports for 7-11-18

The University of South Dakota has named John Vining as their new men’s golf head coach.  Vining is a Sioux Falls native who graduated from U-S-D in 2013 and received the Coyote Character Award in his senior season.  He has been the Assistant Coach for men’s and women’s golf for the Coyotes the past five years.

In South Central League baseball last night, Irene topped Lesterville 6-1 as Alex Loes pitched a complete game five-hitter with 12 strikeouts for the Cardinals.  Wynot moved into third place in the league ahead of Tabor after defeating the Bluebirds 11-6 last night.

In Legion baseball tonight, Yankton Post 12 will host Brandon Valley in a single game starting at 6 pm.  Yankton is 10-17 on the season, while Brandon has a 20-12 season record and was the state champion in Class A high school baseball this spring.  Our broadcast begins at 5:55 tonight on AM 1450, KYNT.

The Yankton Lakers have a doubleheader tonight at Sioux Falls East.

Ponca defeated Hartington 5-2 in Seniors Legion baseball last night.  Creighton advanced to the Class C Juniors Legion state tournament after rolling past Neligh-Oakdale 11-1 in the Area championship final in Pierce on Tuesday.

The Sioux Falls Canaries won the longest game in American Association baseball history on Tuesday, edging Winnipeg 4-2 in 18 innings.  Chris Grayson belted a two-run homer in the top of the 18th to win the game which lasted five hours and 33 minutes.  The previous longest game in the league was 17 innings back in 2007 between Fort Worth and Pensacola.

Also last night in the American Association, the Chicago Dogs beat Sioux City 5-3 as Luis Durango led the Explorers with three hits.
