After winning two games on Friday, Yankton Post 12 lost a pair of games Saturday in the Lewis & Clark Classic at Riverside Field. Lincoln Southeast downed Yankton 9-4 and then Harrisburg edged Post 12 by a 6-5 score. Rex Ryken led Yankton with four hits on the day and Miles Carda added three hits as Yankton dropped to a 4 and 7 season record. A pair of Omaha area teams battled for the title on Sunday as Springfield-Platteview whipped Blair 15-2 in the championship game.
The Tabor Bluebirds remained unbeaten in the South Central Amateur baseball league with a 14-2 rout of Freeman last night as Austin White had four hits and Ross Kortan pitched the complete-game victory. Menno crushed Irene 11-1 as Doug Hall hurled a seven-hitter for the win.
The Texas AirHogs put together a six-run second inning and held on to defeat the Sioux City Explorers 6-5 Sunday in the American Association. Also in league play yesterday, the St. Paul Saints topped the Sioux Falls Canaries 4-1.
The Blue team defeated the Red team 27-6 Saturday in the South Dakota All-Star Football game in the Dome. Pierre graduate Peyton Zabel was voted the game’s Most Valuable Player as he passed for 257 yards and two touchdowns. Zabel is an Augustana recruit in football and baseball and last week was taken by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 19th round of the Major League Baseball draft.
University of South Dakota sophomore Zack Anderson of Parker earned second team All-American honors in the NCAA Track & Field Championships in Oregon. Anderson tied for 13th place in the men’s high jump at the national meet.
