The South Dakota Board of Regents will be voting today in Vermillion and then expect to name and introduce the new U-S-D President.
Vermillion Chamber and Development Company Executive Director Nate Welch was part of the search team for the new University President and says whoever is selected, they will have big shoes to fill in succeeding Jim Abbott who is retiring this spring. Welch says Jim Abbott will finish up his 21st year as President at U-S-D when he officially retires on June 30th.
The Board of Regents will meet at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center and the announcement is expected to be made at 3:30 this afternoon and then the new University of South Dakota President will be introduced.
The four finalist candidates for U-S-D President include Sheila Gestring of Vermillion, the Vice-President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer at U-S-D…Kelli McCormack Brown, Senior Vice-President of Academic Affairs at Georgia State University…Christopher Callahan who is a Dean and Vice-Provost at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University…and Philip Way, the Interim President at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania.
