Emerald Ash Borer

The recent news that the emerald ash borer pest has been found in trees in Sioux Falls has gotten the attention of local officials.

City Manager Amy Nelson says she and the Yankton Departments of Public Works and Parks and Recreation are developing a plan to deal with the tree destroying pest when it arrives in our community.

Nelson says while the city has some time before the emerald ash borer is here, work needs to be done now to address the issue.

A native of Asia the emerald ash borer was discovered in Michigan in 2002 and has since been found in thirty two states and the Canadian provinces of Ontario, Quebec, and Manitoba where it is responsible for killing hundreds of millions of ash trees.
