KYNT Local Sports for 4-19-18

Mount Marty freshman Paul Paul from Harrisburg has been named the G-PAC Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.  In a field at the Sioux City Relays that had ten NCAA teams, Paul won the 400-meter dash and anchored the 16-hundred relay with the best times in the G-PAC this spring and he had the fastest time in the 100-meter qualifying as well.

Mount Marty College has added two recruits for their softball program.  Emma Kerns is a first baseman from Omaha Burke High School who batted .442 this season and she plans to major in Business and Accounting at Mount Marty.  Gigi Byrkeland is a catcher who had a slugging percentage of .702 at Algona, Iowa.  She was named First Team All-State and will major in Education at Mount Marty.

The Yankton Bucks tennis match at Harrisburg today has been cancelled…the Yankton Gazelles home golf meet this afternoon at Fox Run has been cancelled…the Yankton Middle School track meet today has been cancelled…and the Yankton Bucks club baseball games at home tonight against Huron have been cancelled.

This afternoon the Yankton Gazelles and Bucks varsity track and field athletes are competing in the Pierre Legion Relays.

The Mike Miller Classic has officially been renamed as the Hoop City Classic starting this year.  The name change was needed to meet NCAA regulations when Mike Miller signed to become an assistant basketball coach for Penny Hardaway at Memphis University.  The Mike Miller Classic was started in 2005 and last year featured a total of 20 games at the Corn Palace and Sanford Pentagon, and the Yankton Bucks will be a part of the Hoop City Classic for the next three years.
