The championship of the Summit League women’s basketball went to the University of South Dakota last night. The Coyotes rallied from 11 points down in the second half to defeat South Dakota State 80-75 at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center. Senior guard Jasmine Trimboli led the Coyotes with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 steals…while junior Macy Miller had 23 points for the Jacks. U-S-D has now won 18 consecutive games and the Coyotes are the first team to go undefeated in the Summit League in 24 years. U-S-D is 24 and 5 overall and will be the top seed in the Summit League post-season tourney which begins March 3rd in Sioux Falls.
Tonight the Summit League men’s regular season title will be decided in Brookings. South Dakota State is 11 and 1 in league play and U-S-D is a half-game behind the Jacks. The game tips off at 7:00 this evening.
Seth Gross from South Dakota State was named Wednesday as the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week after leading the Jacks to an unbeaten record in conference dual meets. Gross is 21 and 1 overall and the nation’s top-rated wrestler at 133 pounds. The Jacks won every conference dual this season and will compete in the Big 12 Wrestling Championship March 3rd and 4th in Tulsa.
Sub-district championships will be decided in Nebraska boys basketball this evening. At Wayne High School tonight, top-ranked Ponca will face Hartington Cedar Catholic in Class C-2…and top-seed Wynot takes on Bloomfield in the Class D-2 sub-district final at Hartington.
