This is the final week of the regular season for the Yankton High School basketball teams. The Bucks are 12 and 6 overall and seeded 6th right now in the Class Double-A boys ranking, while the Gazelles are 5 and 13 this season and tied for 15th place in the state. In South Dakota girls basketball Region 5-B playoffs on Monday, Gayville-Volin nipped Freeman Academy/Marion 52-44 in overtime and Viborg-Hurley rolled past Centerville 58-28.
The Nebraska high school boys basketball sub-districts started last night, and Hartington-Newcastle edged Crofton 47-45. Shaye Morten led the Wildcats with 19 points, while Noah Lancaster topped Crofton with 31 points in the loss.
U-S-D senior guard Jasmine Trimboli has been named the Summit League Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Trimboli averaged 13 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals last week in a pair of Coyote victories. U-S-D is on a 17-game winning streak and will host South Dakota State at 7:00 tomorrow night in Vermillion in a game to decide the Summit League regular season title in women’s basketball.
The Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships wrapped up over the weekend in Sioux Falls. Denver University won both divisions, with the U-S-D men finishing second in the league while the Coyote women took fourth place.
The Mount Marty College baseball squad opened their season with three wins out of four games in Joplin, Missouri Saturday and Sunday. This coming weekend, the Lancers face Presentation College in a pair of doubleheaders in Sabetha, Kansas.
